My journey into the diamond and jewelry industry started in South Africa, where my parents immigrated when I was a baby. My father managed a diamond factory and later built a thriving business that earned him recognition and respect within the diamond community. His expertise led him to become President of the Diamond Club in Johannesburg and eventually a site holder with De Beers Diamond Company, allowing him to purchase rough diamonds directly from the source and manufacture them in his own factory.
Growing up, I was captivated by the process — watching rough diamonds being cut, polished, and transformed into brilliant gemstones. That early fascination inspired my lifelong connection to fine jewelry.
From South Africa to New York: A Passion Ignited
As I pursued my college education in New York City, I found myself drawn to the famous Diamond District on 47th Street. The dazzling displays of gold and diamond jewelry, the lively energy of merchants and customers — it all sparked my determination to follow in my father’s footsteps.
Despite his initial hesitation, believing the diamond business was a male-dominated field, I persisted. With his support and guidance from family members, I began my own journey. My father shipped parcels of brilliant-cut diamonds from his South African factory to me in New York, where I sold them to merchants in the Diamond District. Thanks to our direct connection with De Beers, our pricing and quality quickly gained recognition and trust among buyers.
Establishing Roots in California
Later, I relocated with my husband to California, where he began his medical practice. My parents soon followed, and my father established a new diamond office in Downtown Los Angeles, while my brother continued to manage our factory in Johannesburg. I worked closely with the business — sorting diamonds by color and clarity — and began designing diamond necklaces and bracelets for retail stores.
My love for design soon evolved into a business of my own. I founded Temi B Jewelry, a brand built on creativity, integrity, and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship. Over the years, I expanded my collections and exhibited at prestigious jewelry trade shows in New York, catering to top-tier retail stores across the country.
